Description
Offwidths anyone?? The new big fella dragon cam from DMM…
The first generation of dual axle DMM Dragon Cams set the benchmark for modern camming devices. Inducing hotforged lobes to trim down the weight and full strength extendable slings was a game changer. Now the DMM Dragon 2 cam aims to make the cam more secure in the most marginal of placements making it the most versatile and easy to use cam on the market.
Even cheap cams work well when they are placed right in the middle of their camming range on good quality rock. It is in the sub-optimal placements and on poor rock, whether too soft or too smooth, that you realise the difference. After extensive testing, the guys at DMM have made some important changes to the Dragon to mean this cam will hold where others won’t.
Raw Aluminium finish on Lobes – DMM have machined the contact area of the lobes to create the maximum surface area as well as the highest friction finish.
Lobe Pattern – The TripleGrip surface triples the number of pronounced edges that ‘bite’ crystals and micro-features in the rock. Together with a larger surface area this gives increased holding power and reduces walking.
13.75 Degree camming angle – The proven camming angle to deliver the best camming range to outward force. While a larger camming angle might deliver a milimeter or 2 of more range in a cam, it dramatically reduces the outward force on the lobes when the cam is loaded – meaning less friction. Â
For Aussie climbers, these points are particularly important when dealing with soft crappy Blue Mountains sandstone or smooth rock at Arapiles or the Grampians.

Other points to consider
Extendable Dyneema slings means a heap less quickdraws saving you weight and space on your harness.
Hot forged lobes increase the strength while decreasing the weight of the unit.
Hot Forged Thumb block is super easy to handle, especially with gloves on. It also means that every cam from size 1 to 6 are fully rated at 14kN whether extended or not.
Single stem cams are more forgiving when they are not able to be placed in the direction of fall as they have a 360 degree range of flex.
